For the third year running we were invited back to be in the parade and to do a demonstration in the main square for the Brandon community. Yet again the weather was amazing, just the week before it was cloudy and raining every day. It was amazing that it was a really sunny and warm day just for the carnival.
This year I was able to invest in another Ninja Turtle, so we had three ninja turtles in the parade. I also had my van with all our logos on it in the parade. To make it really impressive I had two big speakers in the back with the doors open, blasting out the theme tune to the ninja turtle’s film.
It was awesome the crowd loved it, and we had so many parents wanting their photo taken with their child as we were going along in the parade. At one point we stood on the back of the van waving to the crowd. It was great to see all the children waving and calling out their names with really happy faces, and couldn’t believe that they were seeing the ninja turtles in the Brandon parade.
The streets were packed with so many parents and children waving and cheering on the parade, which was really great to be part of. When the parade had reached the main square it was packed with so many people.
It was non-stop with children and parents wanting to have their photos taken with the turtles. This was really great, but as it was so hot in the suits. After an hour of having photos taken we needed to take a break and take in some liquids.
It wasn’t long before we had to get all the students ready for our main demonstration in the main square. All the students from the Brandon club were very excited about doing the demo. The arena was packed with so many people waiting to see the team do their display.
We had 30 minutes to do a display with the club followed by the demonstration team doing their display to music. I decided to do a display showing some of the things that the students do in the lesson, including the championship. This went down really well with the crowd, especially when the new infants did their rolls. The juniors then did their demo with a higher level of techniques and champion fights.
Once their display was over it was time for the demonstration team to show the crowd a traditional demonstration with a self-defence scenario routine. Of course this always finishes with them beating me up, which the crowd really loved. The applauses afterwards is always amazing to receive.
Once all completed it was time to relax and enjoy the rest of the Brandon carnival and the lovely weather.
I would like to thank all my students from my Brandon Club and members of my Thetford Saturday class that supported this great day for Ishin Ryu.
I would also like to thank all the parents from my demonstration team for all their amazing help in setting up the equipment & supporting me all day.
