I would like to start this month off by saying a big well done to Daniel Ziman in the infant class on becoming student of the month. Daniel has shown a big improvement in his training and working really hard. Daniel is a very quiet young man but is an amazing student to teach.
In the junior class I would like to say a big well done to Mollie Harmes. Mollie puts 100% in to all her training and is always asking questions and making sure she gets everything right and perfect. She is a joy to teach and is always willing to help overs in her class.
I am so proud of all the students and it gets harder and harder each month to pick student of the month. I need to get one big belt and put it around the whole class as you are all amazing!!!
I would like to kick this report off with a big well done to all the Borehamwood students that entered the British national championships on Sunday 22nd May 2016. This was an amazing event with loads of support from the parents and also so many students from all over the county. Borehamwood come out on top with so many golds, silvers and bronzes. I am so proud of every single one of you.
Both classes this month have been working on stand up grappling and also groundwork ready for the championships with loads of students entering. It was a good time to get stuck in with some easy throws and hold downs for the infants and then for the juniors turn it up a little with some arm locks and strangles.
The infant class have been working on a basic body drop and also a leg sweep to try and get their partner down to the ground quick to pin. With the infants it is a case of keeping the balance so when you turn someone they fall to the floor. The kids loved throwing each other to the ground and even better when we put the throws in to a good old game of stuck in the mud. Also the class have been going over the does and don’ts while on the floor.
We have some good holds that pin you down and you can’t get up, but it’s all about keeping your weight on them at all times. So we have been working on body control on the floor and it has been fun seeing all the kids rolling around on the floor.
The junior class have also been working extremely hard working hard on strangles and arm locks from the ground. The most used strangle has to be the rear chock as once you start grappling someone always turns their back to the person they are fighting and bang the arm goes under the chin and strangle every time.
I would like to welcome to the junior class Abigail Jacobs, who has moved up from the infant class in to the juniors and I have to say she has settled in nicely. It is a little scary at first coming in to a new class with bigger boys and girls but the class welcomed her in and she has made loads of new friends already. Also joining our junior class we have Daniel Ziman from the infants he had just been awarded the student of the month and then wanted to try the junior class, and loved it.
Well done you two amazing to see moving up the classes and working hard.
To finish off this month I would like to say a big well done to all the students that took part in the children’s championships. Here are the winners that won gold, silver and bronze and become the British champion in their weight.
Infant Luca Lazar British champion – Gold
Infant Joshua Jacobs – Silver
Junior Daniel Fava – Silver
Junior Amber Jackson – Bronze
