I would like to start this month off by saying a big well done to Max Malenkov in the infant class and Ella Steal in the junior class for becoming March’s student of the month. Both Max and Ella have been working really hard.
Max has shown a big improvement with his ground work and moving around on the floor. Ella has also been making big improvements with all aspects of jujitsu and I have to say that she shows the boys how it’s done most of the time. Keep up the good work you two and I look forward to finding out next month’s student of the month.
This month has been grading month for both infant and junior classes with everyone working so hard, to get ready for the first grading of the year. It has been a very busy time. The infant class have been working on basic ground work and also a lot of fitness, and I have to say the class has loads of energy in the class.
With the build up to the grading me and William Forester split the class up so the lower grades worked on the basic moves and the high grades worked on some more advanced grappling moves plus some throwing. I must say I saw some outstanding throws. With the grading day here all the students felt a little nervous and I had loads of them worrying about what they had to do, but they had nothing to worry about.
As soon as we started like a normal lesson everyone forgot that it was a grading. After 30minutes of fitness breakfalls and grappling Sensei Tom took two students at a time down the end of the dojo and asked some questions and asked to see some self – defence moves plus some other moves they have been learning. Everyone done so well and I could not fault anyone in the class.
The junior class had it a little bit tougher than the infant class with more fitness and moves grappling from standing and also kneeling to see how they find doing the different throws but also the locks and holds from the ground. Joshua Rockman and Taylor Raymond were working together and I have to say they looked like it was something they did every day like riding a bike, outstanding grading and outstanding performance from everyone in the class.
We had two senior grades in the class going for brown and brown/black belt very high grades within Ishin Ryu and as part of their grading they had to write a little essay on Ishin Ryu Ju Jitsu and what they liked about the class. Alex Fry-Dontas and Marcus Firby done an outstanding job on their essays and worked really hard on them with loads of information they got from the website and also from asking questions in class.
With the gradings out of the way we had the presentations were all the mums and dads can come and see there little ninjas get their new belts. It is an honour to present the students with their new belts and to tell the parents how well their children are doing it is a time for everyone to see how well they are doing in the lessons.
I am very proud of the Borehamwood Tuesday class they have been working so hard and really have been putting in 100% and they are a joy to teach. Lastly I would like to welcome to the junior class Alyssa McDougall to our class. Alyssa has never done martial arts before and after her first lesson she couldn’t wait to come back. I would like to say a big welcome to our Ishin Ryu family and I look forward to training with you for many years to come.
With the gradings out of the way and the Easter holidays on their way I would like to say that the club is still open of the Easter holidays and every holiday the only time we stop is for Christmas.
Next month the club will be covering grabs from behind and also from the front and what happens if someone is holding you down how to get out of the holds.
Please visit our website www.ishinryu.com as much as possible as I submit reports every month about the students training during the previous month. This is a great opportunity to see if you have been mentioned or appear in a photo.
We also have the new calendar page where you can have a look at upcoming events so you can plan ahead. You can also leave feedback on each of the reports or comment on your son/daughters club and share them to your Facebook pages.
If you have any questions or you are unsure of anything, please catch me at the club where I will be happy to help!
If you are on Facebook, please can you send me and Kevin Pell a friend request so if we need to pass on information quickly I can contact you, and when the reports go up I can share it to your Facebook page so you get it straight away.
