I would like to start this month off by saying a big well done to two brothers – one in the infant class Koray Burmali and the other one in the junior class Eren Burmali. Both brothers have become June’s student of the month. They both work so well together and you can tell that Eren helps his brother as much as he can as every week he gets better and better. They are a joy to teach and I never have any problems with them. Well done boys keep up the good work.
This month all the classes have been working hard on their grading moves ready for the start of next month. They have all been working really hard and the focus on all their faces is amazing to see. With the infant class working on ground escapes and hold downs the class have been learning to move around on the floor why someone is holding them down how to get someone off them when they are trying to hold them down. This is a good way to keep the children fit and strong having to move them self’s around on the floor and also someone else on top.
This works the body and the crore to make the children strong and tuff, getting them use to rolling around with someone. Also this month the kids have been doing a lot of fitness and running around making them practice their basic fitness test at home one big part of the fitness test is doing it right and the sensei will be marking them on good technique. The junior class are working on wall techniques this month, using the wall to help them with a bully and if they ever get pinned or pushed up to a wall what they can do.
I must say they have had so much fun this is something we haven’t done in a long time and not even our purple belts have done this before. Also this month at the start of each lesson we go over some basic ground work and grappling to get the class all warmed up with rounds of stuck in the mud to get them running around and working together to free each other and get that class bonding. I am so proud of the Borehamwood class as this was my class from when I started in the infants and watching it grow and become an amazing class just taking a step back and watching the classes brings back so many old memories.
The teenager class are also getting ready for their first grading of the year with the highest belt being attempted is blue belt. All the students have been working with the adults learning with them and I have to say it has been working amazing. The class has become one and both the classes work hard together. Most of the teenagers are taller than me anyways so they look like adults so they throw each other around like its normal.
To finish off the lesson with the teens we do some grappling getting the adults mixed in with them so they can grapple someone that is a big stronger and knows a little bit more than them. The senior grades work in with the students and they learn loads from it, I know sempai Jack and sempai Mike have loads of fun testing out new moves they have been trying to get on Sensei Sam and Harvey.
All in all an amazing month for the Borehamwood dojo and I can’t wait to see everyone next month ready for their grading’s. Fingers crossed it all goes well and no one panics. You all have been training hard and are looking good so keep it up and your will be fine.
Starting next month we have the children’s grading’s so make sure that all admin is handed in before the cut-off date, and all licences have been handed in as well.
