The Infants that train on a Tuesday in Borehamwood have been learning several new techniques in order to prepare for their upcoming gradings. The first of these is the Reverse Body Drop, an advanced technique that can be found in the Adults’ Purple Belt Syllabus. As a result, the students have spent a lot of time ensuring their technique is correct before progressing to deliver the throws at a quicker pace. This technique will be the key feature of their gradings and as such we have dedicated a lot of each lesson to perfecting it. The children also worked very hard on their fitness and stamina through several rounds of grappling and press-ups. Over the month, we have seen some exceptional throws from some of the students. Amber Jackson has shown some excellent throwing techniques while participating in stand-up grappling. I would just like to say well done to our student of the month, Lydia Lever, for working extremely hard over the past month.
Tuesday’s Junior class has worked exceptionally hard this past month. All students have tried to perfect the techniques required to progress to their next belts. We have been working particularly hard on the Reclining Leg Throw. This is quite a fast throw and so to ensure everyone is ready we have invested a lot of time on how to breakfall effectively at the start of every lesson. As well as this, there are also a couple of Arm and Wrist Locks required to pass their gradings. Thus, the remainder of each lesson has been spent perfecting the Arm Bar and Figure Four Arm Lock. Toby Curnow and Alex Fry-Dontas have really enjoyed learning the wrist locks and as such have picked up the technique very quickly. A few of the higher grade in the class have been able to start learning some different chokes, which also may make an appearance in the upcoming grading. Also well done to Jamie McClafferty who is out student of the month for February.
The Teenager class have concentrated on their syllabus in order to be suitably prepared for their grading. Each belt requires knowledge of a different set of techniques and so after a rigorous warm-up, involving lots of grappling, press-ups, sit-ups and throws, all the students have joined their training partners to finish learning their syllabus. James Horton and Callum Lauchlan have been working really well together and really taking preparing for the gradings in their stride. Lastly, we have been practicing our stand-up grappling and trying to improve on different techniques, which is working really well. Sam Beaven has shown that he is a force to be reckoned with – after seeing some of his throws I am pretty sure that we are going to see great things from him. Jerome Badu is another young man working really hard in preparation for his next grading (the mighty heights of blue belt) as he knows from previous gradings, it is not an easy task to complete. Well done guys and keep up the good work! I think this next grading will be a great one!
