This month has been very busy with all the guys getting ready for the national gradings at the Honbu Ju Jitsu Club in Norfolk. In preparation for this, all the students have been working hard on their syllabus, with Nick Rowan attempting to triple grade from white belt up to orange – something that has never been done before. He has been putting in loads of work training up to three times a week at Bushey, Borehamwood and also the Aldenham dojo.

The adult students have been working really hard this month not just on learning and building up their syllabus skills, but also working on mat fitness and ground work. With this side of training we get the students nice and warm with some basic throws then straight in to grappling, and from there we mix it up and throw in some fitness and more throws.

This gets the students used to hitting the floor loads of times whilst improving their cardio and willingness to fight on the floor for longer. Jake and Lee have really enjoyed this training, as it has made them fitter and stronger and also improved their ground work no end.

In the middle of June, all the adult students participated in the National gradings. All of the students did an outstanding job, coming back to Hertfordshire bruised but with new belts. Congratulations to all.

I would like to say a special well done to Nick Rowan who successfully passing his white, yellow and orange belt, becoming the first person to ever go from novice up to orange in one grading.

With the grading out of the way and students back in the dojo, we have been going over some new moves for the lower grades from different strangles from the ground and also from trying to take someone down to the ground to choke them out. Lee Swan and Jake Rider have being loving this but Lee might need a step ladder to get to Jake’s neck.

At the end of June we had the Borehamwood family’s day with our Ishin Ryu Ju Jitsu club stall and demonstration’s in the heart of Borehamwood. All the adults and children made their way down to join in with a demonstration in the main arena, showing off 25 years of Ishin Ryu Ju Jitsu in Borehamwood. It was fantastic to see Soke Kevin Pell and the students from the Norfolk Dojos travelled down from for the day to support us.

To finish this month off I would like to say a big well done to all the adult students that took part in the adult grading’s and also in the Borehamwood family’s day. Everyone did really well and I am so pleased with how well everyone is getting on. I look forward to seeing everyone back on the mat for some more great training

Make sure you all check your dates for the year to see the next events in the year.  Senior grades remember we have A.T.W on Sunday 26th July 2015.

Also next month some of our senior grades, along with Soke, are going up to Herefrd to do a Seminar with the S.A.S. So keep your eyes locked on the website to see what they got up to.

Even with the summer holidays coming up there will still be training so get to class and let’s have loads of fun.
