Soke Kevin Pell 50 years training in the Martial Arts October 1966 – October 2016

October has been an amazing month for the adult class in Borehamwood, with some really outstanding training and everyone working so hard.

This month was Soke Kevin Pell’s Birthday and all the senior grades went up to Honbu to have a surprise meal. He was very shocked when he walked into the Japanese restaurant to see all of the senior grades from the Borehamwood dojo. It was a lovely night and everyone had a good time. Happy Birthday Soke Kevin Pell, you’re not looking a day past 21, you just don’t seem to age.

With the adult national grading in December, everyone has been working on their next belt syllabus – from white belt up to purple belt, everyone has been training hard. With the white belts working on their ground work and the hip throws, it has been really good to see them progress and is the change in the way they train from when they first stepped on the mat. It is amazing to see the difference in everyone from white belt to the high grades working on gun drills and amazing dropping throws. You can’t put into words what it is like to train with amazing students that put their all into their training. The only way you will ever find out is by taking the leap and jumping on the mat.

Also this month I have been getting two students out in front of the class to show the class what they have been working on and also put them in the spotlight and under a little bit of pressure, with everyone watching them they can’t hide and with the senior grades looking on they will know if they are doing the moves right or not. This is always an eye-opener for the lower grades to see the senior grades training and see what they will hopefully one day get up to and be like.

To finish every lesson we fit in a little bit of fitness and grappling working on throws and change it up all the time. You should never expect what is going to happen in a lesson as you never know what will be pulled out of the bag.

I would like to thank sensei Sam and the senior grades for all their help and hard work within the club, as if it wasn’t for you guys and girls the club wouldn’t be where it is today and producing amazing martial artists. So for that, I would like to thank you and it is an honor to have you in the Dojo.
