Congratulations to Edward Jica from the infant class and Sam Ralph from the junior class on receiving student of the month for May. Both boys have had a great month. Edward is getting stronger and more confident requesting that techniques be practiced on him. Sam is an intelligent young man and tries his hardest at whatever he is doing. Well-done to you both! Osu
I would like to say a warm welcome to Leila Jackson who has joined us in the infant class. Leila is such a petite young girl but manages great. I’m sure Leila will turn out like her older sister Amber and be a great little fighter.
Throughout the month of May students at the Borehamwood Ju Jitsu club have been learning a variety of techniques and going over a few things practiced the previous month. In the infant class we started off learning a body drop throw but to make a few things a little easier I got the students to place their hands on their partner’s shoulders.
Once this was done the opposite side would grab the sleeve with one hand and thrust through the middle with the other to grab their back, they would spin around tightly shooting the leg across both of their partner’s feet. With a twist and a pull, they would throw their partner and ensure they kept hold of the sleeve.
The junior class performed similar techniques but blocking a punch that was thrown in by their partners, perform the throw and then finish off with an armbar. I took a little more time going over the armbar ensuring they had all the little details: was they close to their partner, thumb pointing upwards and knees pinched. Last thing was the safety, applying slowly to ensure no injury. With all this taken into account they were partnered up and sent away to practice. With the Children’s Championships being staged this month there were lots of practice of stand up grappling to get everyone in that fighting spirit.
On Sunday 22nd May 2016 Ishin Ryu staged the Children’s Championships. Amber Jackson and Tharan Nimalraj attending the junior competition, traveling to Norfolk to compete. Amber had some tough competition but was successful at achieving a bronze medal, finishing 3rd place in her weight division, congratulations Amber.
Tharan too had some tough fights but was unsuccessful this time with getting into the top three places. I am very proud of them both, it takes a lot of strength and courage and this will only make them a lot stronger.
I would also like to say congratulations to Amber Jackson in successfully completing her star card. Amber trains twice a week and trains as hard as she can to get a star. I think that this might be the first completed star card so Amber will be awarded with something really special for all her hard work.
Next month is time for the children’s gradings and the children will be tested on what they have learnt over the past few months. Letters will be handed out shortly telling you all relevant information.
Please visit our website www.ishinryu.com as much as possible as I submit reports every month about the students training during the previous month. This is a great opportunity to see if you have been mentioned or appear in a photo.
