The infant class working well as a group

Congratulations Luca Lazar (infants) and Caitlin Robbins (junior) on receiving Student of the Month for June 2015. Both students have shown a lot of effort in class and continue to work hard.

This month we concentrated all our efforts for the gradings, which are taking place at the beginning of next month. First thing was to try get the young students to line up in a straight line with a partner to perform exercises. We would perform this then send them back down to the end of the matted area to repeat the process but each time getting quicker; if they were to slow, each person would have to perform an exercise. This made the children work harder and gave them an individual drive to not let the group down.

With the infant class getting good at working together, we performed exercises next but getting all to perform at the same time called out by me. A new edition of the burpees has made a few perspire but gave a really good workout. Moving on from here we practiced their techniques one by one and asking questions along the way. What kind of locks are they using? What kind of throw are you using? This made them think more about what they are doing.

What great locks!

The junior class performed the same format as the infant class but a little harder. They worked on different variations of shoulder arm locks. They were grabbed from the front and back and each time they would use different forms of escapes to get themselves back into a safe position and finish off with controlled strikes.

With them all getting in the swing of things, we practised palm heel strikes from 1-5. I would also move around the class to test them individually on their progression.

Next month we have class gradings. We have been working really hard and now its time to demonstrate your techniques to successfully move up to the next level. The following week we will be performing any re-takes (hopefully none) and presentations. If there is no re-takes the class will be awarded with games for their weeks of preparation.

* SUMMER HOLIDAYS – are fast approaching and just wanted to let everyone know that your children’s Ju Jitsu classes will still be on*
