With the children’s national gradings and presentations finished, it was time to move on. The beginning of the month we went into greater detail about balance. After a demonstration on balance I got the children to experiment with themselves; using the lines on the mats, I got the children to stand on a cross and worked on going as far as possible in different directions without falling over. This was to give the younger students an understanding to where their centre of gravity is is, thus enabling them to throw better and learn different ways to take their partner down.
After we practiced, I asked questions before moving onto the next stage. Creating a cross from an old belt, I would get the student with their partner to stand on one of the lines of the crosses, explaining in greater detail about grips first; they would use their compliant partner to pull off balance before throwing. As the children were practicing I moved around the mat to help with any little struggles that they may encounter. We practiced this for a couple of weeks and tried putting it to practice with stand up grappling (Randori). The children enjoyed this with some good throws being achieved with breaking balance.
This month was slightly shorter as we finished for Christmas so the last lesson of the month was dedicated to the children by a games lesson. Sweets were awarded for the best teams during team games.
Please visit our website www.ishinryu.com as much as possible as I submit reports every month about the students training during the previous month. This is a great opportunity to see if you have been mentioned or appear in a photo.
We also have the new calendar page where you can have a look at upcoming events so you can plan ahead. You can also leave feedback on each of the reports or comment on your son/daughters club and share them to your Facebook pages.
If you have any questions or you are unsure of anything, please catch me at the club where I will be happy to help!
If you are on Facebook, please can you send me and Kevin Pell a friend request so if we need to pass on information quickly I can contact you, and when the reports go up I can share it to your Facebook page so you get it straight away…
With a fantastic year behind us and everyone working so very hard, I would like to say from myself and all the Ishin Ryu Ju Jitsu family a very Merry Christmas and a very successful and Happy New Year…!
