Congratulations to Georgie Slosberg from the infants and Max Fruhauf from the juniors receiving student of the month award for August 2015, both students have worked really hard during lessons helping others with techniques.
During the month of August both infant and junior student classes where a little quiet due to most been away on their summer holidays, for those that were still able to attend training we had a fun and exciting month. Young Isabel Block from the infant class is settling in really well to class and learning all the routines and start of the lesson. Ope and Fayo Ashiru who started a few months ago, purchased their uniform and past their first grades have come far and feel a lot more relaxed in the class
At the beginning of month the infant class worked on a throwing technique, for some of the students it was revision and for some it was a brand move technique to be learnt. The reason we worked on this throwing technique was to work the students on their breakfalls, learning how to break your fall can be quite a big deal especially if you land wrong, the last thing you wish to do is to land on your head or flat on your back and wind yourself – so a little time is given to make sure everything is done correctly.
The junior class had some fun with their breakfalls, using Sempai Jack O’Brien and myself we would stand in the centre of the mat and allow the children to run up to us, hold on to our lapels whilst we support there arm and chuck themselves into the air to perform a side brake fall.
This was an enormous fun for the children as they placed their confidence into the instructors knowing that’s if they didn’t quite get it right that the instructors would support them. We continue this theme but this time the instructors would go on all fours whilst the children sat on the instructor’s backs, they would then safely slide off of our backs to perform a back breakfall. We started off at lower heights and then progressively got higher, again building on the student’s confidence.
The next few weeks both classes worked on their fitness ability either doing static fitness tests or by doing relay races where they could compete against other teams which would help them work within a group.
We also practiced a ground hold technique called broken side four quarters and after many repetitions to ensure that the students got it done correctly we made it a little more interesting by turning it into a game – the children would run around and once tagged they would lay on the floor on their back and the only way that day could be freed was for other students to perform this particular technique, this was then repeated many times but with different catchers, (a great way to work on repetition and fitness)
Next month we will look forward to continuing with these techniques plus adding others, the infant class will be working on hip throws and for the juniors we will be doing variations of throws.
With the summer holidays now finished and everyone back-to-school I look forward to seeing everyone back at training to further their Ju Jitsu skills.
One final reminder to all my students, please can you visit our website as much as possible as I submit reports every month about the students training during the last month. This is a great opportunity to see if you have been mentioned or are in a photo.
We also have the new calendar page where you can have a look at upcoming events so you can plan ahead.
You can also leave feedback on each of the reports or comment on your son/daughters club and share them to your Facebook pages.
If you have any questions or you are unsure of anything, please catch me at the club where I will be happy to help!
If you are on Facebook, please can you do a friend request to me, so if I need to tell the parents something quickly I can contact you , and when the reports go up I can share it to your Facebook page so you get it straight away.
