First off all I would just like to say well done to our student of the months, in the infant class Koray Burmali and Tanisha Patel in the junior class. They both have been working extremely hard and both deserve this award. Well done you two keep up the good work.

I would like to start this month off by welcoming everyone back. It has been a really good month for the Saturday class having the first lesson back on the birthday of Ishin Ryu on 9th January. We got all the teenagers at the end of the lesson and classed Soke to wish him a very happy day on the birth of Ishin Ryu.

To kick off this month all three classes have been working on the same sort of work grappling and groundwork. With the infant class working on the basics how to hold down and starting to learn how to throw each other to the floor it has been really good to see every one progressing so much each week.
The junior class have been learning a little bit more going for a throw and then into an arm lock or a hold down, this has been really nice to watch as some of the children are getting some amazing throws already.

It is nice to see the class working together with throws and the high grades showing the low grades some of their tricks they have picked up over the years.

In the teenager class have been starting with stand up grappling and the lower grades have been working with Sempai Mike and Mark with some basic ground holds and strangles from kneeing. The high grades have been showing some amazing moves from sweeps and full shoulder throws – it is wonderful to see them pull these kinds of moves.

All three classes have been working on their basic fitness test from press ups, sit ups, leg raises and burpees. Showing the students how best to do each exercise and the right and wrong ways to do the exercise. All of the classes have been amazing and trying so hard, they have improved so much already and we have started a fitness test at the start of each lesson.

Please remember to look on the website for all dates for the year and also up and coming events.

Next month is going to be arm and leg locks for the junior and teenager classes. And the infant class will be learning some escapes from the legs and arms.

Please visit our website www.ishinryu.com as much as possible as I submit reports every month about the students training during the previous month. This is a great opportunity to see if you have been mentioned or appear in a photo.

We also have the new calendar page where you can have a look at upcoming events so you can plan ahead. You can also leave feedback on each of the reports or comment on your son/daughters club and share them to your Facebook pages.

If you have any questions or you are unsure of anything, please catch me at the club where I will be happy to help!

If you are on Facebook, please can you send me and Kevin Pell a friend request so if we need to pass on information quickly I can contact you, and when the reports go up I can share it to your Facebook page so you get it straight away.

Many thanks,
Tom Garvin Sensei
