In the infant class I would like to say congratulations to Koray Burmali for becoming student of the month for September. He works so hard in every lesson and he is a fantastic student to teach. Keep up the good work Koray well done.
In the junior class I would like to say a big well done to Taylor Sheehan for becoming September’s student of the month. Taylor works very hard both on and off the mat; he also comes down on a Tuesday and helps with the infant class with me and Sempai Jack. This is amazing to see someone really loving his Ju Jitsu – keep it up.
The infant class have been going over some of the basics from how to bow in and out of the Dojo, to throwing their training partner to the floor and holding them down. This has been a really big help to all the students – even the high grades have all been helping the new students in the class. Rafi Cohen being the most senior grade has shown amazing skill in the class helping the new ones with how to bow and showing them the Ishin Ryu way. He is not shy when it comes to meeting new students and is always ready to help anyone in the class.
Some of the high grades have also been learning some arm locks from standing which we have not gone over in some time, all the high grades where loving this and got stuck in with nice loud OSU! One pair that got the locks straight away where Peter Wakaba and Jared Kurensky, they both work well together and train hard. To finish off we had some new games with the kids for working so hard we played old school tug of war and also got the ring out and played some super sumo all the students had so much fun.
The junior class have also been going over some new and old moves from the ground and standing from arm bars and chokes from the floor, to shoulder locks and wrist locks from a grab or an attack. The students have really enjoyed this. Two students that have put 100% in to their training and put the locks and chokes in to practice when grappling are Nabrissa Badu and Molly Wingate the two girls are not scared to get stuck in with the boys and they come out on top most of the time.
With it being the school holidays and loads of students going away we had loads of fun with the kids bringing back some old games that me and Sempai Jack use to play as kids. So we got out some old belts and played old school tug of war and also Super sumo the juniors loved it even when myself and Sempai Jack got involved bring back loads of child hood memories.
The teenagers have been knuckling down on their syllabus work, with most of the students at white belt going to yellow they have being getting stuck in to wall defences and having loads of fun with dropping throws.
