I wold like to start off by saying a big well done to Zac Salmi in the infant class and to Kieran Blackman. Both boys have been working really hard and try their upmost every lesson. I can’t fault them in their training and they look forward to each lesson. Both a joy to teach.
I would just like to say welcome to all the new students we have had join us over the month. It is great to see loads of new smiling faces on the mat and I hope you enjoy training with us.
The Infants have been preparing every Saturday for their upcoming grading. Each lesson has begun with several minutes of practising breakfalls in order that they are ready to be thrown. Following this all the students have been perfecting their technique at performing the Reverse Body Drop. This is a very advanced and quick throw and so the students need to be sure they are doing it correctly so that they will not hurt each other. Furthermore, the Reverse Body Drop will be a very important part of their grading and so all the children have had excellent focus when approaching this technique.
Callum Mursell and Leo Knowles have also shown incredible spirit in ensuring they are fit and ready for their grading by working hard right from the warm up until they put their shoes back on. While watching the Infant Class I have seen students working exceptionally hard in preparation for their test, such as Anna who is constantly working hard and trying to perfect all her techniques.
In the Junior Class we have also been training hard to be ready for the grading. The junior grading will consist of both throws and arm locks. As such we have devoted the first half of every lesson to ensuring the students have the perfect technique to perform the Reverse Body Drop and Reclining Leg Throw. Since they have been working so hard, every student will have also seen an increase in their stamina as they are being thrown tens of times per lesson.
The second half of each class has been used to get to grips with the Arm Bar and Figure Four Arm Lock. These are intricate techniques requiring excellent focus, which has been shown particularly by Harrison Green who has not stopped working hard this past month. I wanted to say a big thank you to Taylor Sheehan who has started to come down to the Infant Class and help teach, it is always great to see a student which wants to come down and help with the classes, well done to you Taylor and keep up the good work.
The Teenager Class have also been working hard for their upcoming grading. They have been working particularly hard to ensure that they know the syllabus for their next grade. I am sure with the effort they are putting in now it will pay off later. Good work guys and keep it up!! Over the month of February, we have been trying to improve the class’ stand-up grappling skills. Two people that have improved immensely are Jack Morse and Tom Waite, and I don’t mean the instructors! They have been training incredibly hard to try and become just a little bit better, and because of this we have seen some cracking throws from the boys.
Please make sure that all admin for the grading are handed in before the grading day as we need to know who will be grading and who won’t be grading this time round.
We are looking forward to our first grading’s of the year on Saturday 12th March 2016 this will be a hard lesson and all the students will be worked hard and hopefully they will all come out with all new belts.
