Student of The Month for infant class Daniella Espshtein

This month has been action-packed even with the summer holidays. The students have been working super hard and it shows in their training. With the classes smaller we can focus a lot more on the basic moves and perfecting them. With the infant class, we have been going over a lot of moving around on the ground, pulling and pushing our partner; getting them on the floor and holding them down. All the students are really enjoying this and getting to work with each other makes it so much fun. I know everyone likes grappling with Charlie Reilly – he is really good at holding people down and moving around on the ground.

With all the students really enjoying the grappling. We put the grappling into some games we play – super sumo, stuck in the mud and also bulldog. All the games have grappling involved; trying to hold their partner down, pull them to the floor or even just going over some of the hold downs they have learned.

The junior class has been working a lot more on self-defence and throwing this month with the class really getting stuck in, with loads of different attacks from a grab from behind, in front and even from a strangle. This is more advanced work for the students but this class works hard and can be pushed a lot more and have loads of fun. Amelie Wilkinson and Callum Randall getting stuck into the front strangles and showing some fast defences and amazing strike.

With all the hard work the students have been putting in, we put all their work into action with games with some stand-up bulldog and super sumo all the kids found out how easy it is to take someone down when they are moving to you and grabbing you. To finish all the month we done a lot of fitness and different exercise working on different parts on the body mainly legs and arms, and to do this we played a game I use to love this as a kid, it was called “tug of war” this uses your legs and arms to pull your partner away from their finish line.

The teenagers have been working really hard on their grappling and using different throws to get each other down it has been a really fun month for the teenagers doing loads of mat work for grappling. Hats off to all the kids they have been working so hard and it being the summer holidays there are still turning up to lesson working so hard in the hot weather.
