What a month it has been for the Borehamwood adult class. I would like to start this report off by saying a big well done to all the adults that took part in the national grading at the Honbu dojo in Norfolk, on Saturday 25th June 2016.  This was an amazing grading with students from all over the country coming together to grade at our headquarters under Soke Kevin Pell and his Yudansha.

With the weeks leading up to the grading, everyone has been training hard and getting in the zone ready for the big day. Two students that have been training hard have been Jake Rider and Lee Swain. The two friends have been working hard on Orange Belt and could perform the syllabus with their eyes closed, so I gave them a big challenge two weeks – before the grading:

To learn and attempt green belt, and in true Ishin Ryu spirt the gauntlet was thrown down and the guys picked it up and got training.

The Borehamwood dojo did an outstanding job on the grading day with all the guys and girls coming away with new belts and the standard of the grading being kept high it was an outstanding day. There were some students that didn’t pass and they know what they will have to do next time to pass and they will come back stronger and ready for December.

With the grading being the highlight of the month and everyone did so well, the class have also been working on stand up grappling and kneeling grappling. With the white belts putting in to action their basic ground holds and strangles to the high grades getting use to punching and kicking why trying to control someone on the floor. With two people coming out at a time it gives the lower belts a good idea what to work on and how to grapple and also get use to what is expected of them from bowing and respect that is given to each other.

This month was rounded off with all the guys back on the mat with their new belts and working on some basic throws and perfecting some basic self-defence moves to keep the brain ticking over.

I would like to say a big thank you to all the senior grades that helped on the grading day, and also to Sensei Sam, Sensei Del and the senior grades for helping the lower belts with their colour belts, and showing them how it’s done week in week out. The team spirt in the dojo is amazing and I am very proud to have a grate dojo to train it. Keep it up guys and girls.

Next month we will be working on everyone’s new belts and getting to know what will be next on the cards for the students. Also I will be focusing more on Sempai Mike Tuohy and Harvey Cousins and going over all the belts with them. Also next month I will be looking at Olli Harviek’s purple belt and going over his gun work and the little bits he might be unsure of.

Please remember that even though the summer holidays are almost here the club is still running. If you can’t make training please remember to contact Soke at the office and also if you can let me know as well that would be grate but most importantly to contact Kevin Pell Sensei (Soke)

Please visit our website www.ishinryu.com as much as possible as I submit reports every month about the students training during the previous month. This is a great opportunity to see if you have been mentioned or appear in a photo.

We also have the new calendar page where you can have a look at upcoming events so you can plan ahead. You can also leave feedback on each of the reports or comment on your son/daughters club and share them to your Facebook pages.

If you have any questions or you are unsure of anything, please catch me at the club where I will be happy to help!

If you are on Facebook, please can you send me and Kevin Pell a friend request so if we need to pass on information quickly I can contact you, and when the reports go up I can share it to your Facebook page so you get it straight away.

Many thanks,
Tom Garvin Sensei
