I would like to start this month off by saying how well everyone has been doing over the last four weeks. The mat has been packed full and there has been some amazing training from the adults.
With everyone getting stuck in to syllabus training, we have had all the high grades picking a belt and working with a lower grade so that the senior students get to practice with the lower grade for the night.
This has been working so well the high grades have learned a lot; not just remembering the moves but also how to teach someone who hasn’t done that move before. It will improve not only the student but it is also is helping me with how to teach the class. With syllabus going so well I have thrown some lovely fitness test in the lesson to keep everyone on their toes so no one falls asleep.
This month we have seen some new faces in the dojo I would like to welcome first of all Sam Clements who used to train in Ishin Ryu 15 years ago and has come back, and I have to say it is amazing to see him back. I would also like to welcome to the adult class one of my student’s from Potters Bar; Lamia has moved up from the Teenager class and loves the adult class. She isn’t scared of a challenge and is giving the guys a run for their money.
Also this month myself, Sempai Sam and Sempai Jack went to see Sensei Steve from Toyama Ryu Lia Batto Do to undertake our first grading in the art of the sword. I have to say it was a lovely day and we all learned a lot with a 4 hour seminar before our grading. With lunch out of the way we then went to a different hall were Sensei Steve put us for our grading with a quick warm up and naming different parts of the sword. We then went through the 8 Kata for our grading. We came out with big smiles on our faces as all 3 of us passed with flying colours. Thank you so much Sensei Steve – what a lovely day and one to remember indeed.
Also this month the senior grades had ATW (Advanced Training Wing) at the end of the month with Soke going over some new events coming up next year and to the end of this year. We started the ATW in true Ishin Ryu style – cup of tea and a chat and then all got on the mat were Soke started off with a line up and going over the basics.
The ATW was a good learning day with everyone doing a line up with the brown belts all the way up having a go and learning how to call the class up and take the line-up. To finish off the lesson we done some mat fitness and conditioning work with loads of syllabus as well. Some stand up grappling with bag gloves on as well to get us use to hitting each other to finish.
Next month we have the Shochu Geiko cross training seminar in Norfolk and also at the end of the month we also have a trip to Holland to training with the police and Soke Kevin Pell will be teaching out there, something not to be missed.
Please visit our website www.ishinryu.com as much as possible as I submit reports every month about the students training during the previous month. This is a great opportunity to see if you have been mentioned or appear in a photo.
We also have the new calendar page where you can have a look at upcoming events so you can plan ahead. You can also leave feedback on each of the reports or comment on each club and share them to your Facebook pages.
If you have any questions or you are unsure of anything, please catch me at the club where I will be happy to help!
If you are on Facebook, please can you send me and Kevin Pell a friend request so if we need to pass on information quickly I can contact you, and when the reports go up I can share it to your Facebook page so you get it straight away…
