What a month this has been for the adult class. I would like to start off by saying a big Ishin Ryu welcome to our newest adult student Mathew Jeffs. He is getting stuck in and working hard with all the adults and is working on the basics with Daniel Morris and Nicolas Gonzalez.
This month all the adults have been working on syllabus ready for their grading on Saturday 25th June 2016. All the students have been working really hard and it is showing in the way they train.
With the yellow belts working on their weapons training for orange belt they have to use a side handle baton and the control they all have is really good. Simon and Matthew have also been perfecting their throws in orange belt working on the sweeping loin throw and Simon is getting a lovely throw on Matthew as he is that bit smaller than Matthew.
This month the senior grades and black belts headed up to Honbu for the third ATW (Advanced Training Wing) With Soke taking a back seat on this one he left it in the hands of Sensei Trevor Steward 5th Dan. This was Sensei Trevor’s first time heading an ATW and everyone had a good training day with loads of technical training on basic throws and basic white belt and yellow belt the time past as by. The last hour we turned the gas to cooking with the beloved logs coming off the wall for log work training followed by bag work and fitness.
By now everyone was nice and warm and we finished off with round of grappling looking for different ways to move on the floor and try new submissions and techniques.
As part of Sempai Sam’s black belt grading he has to take and teach a children’s class and also an adult class. Now this is something new to Sempai Sam and he was a little nervous at the start of the kids class but he soon got in to it and did a brilliant job.
He took the adult class showing them some outstanding techniques from a grab to the lapel to some weapon work with a police baton. With sempai Sam’s grading at the end of the month I think he is ready to face the Yudansha to show us that he is ready to stand next to us as one of us.
Also this month the adult students took part in helping and supporting the children at the British national championships in Norfolk. With an early start for the London guys traveling up for an 8am meeting to go over rules and rolling for everyone. The day was fantastic and could not have done it without the support and the help of the adult students. Thank you so much for all your hard work and I look forward to our competition in October this year.
This month we have had loads going on from ATW with the senior grades the children’s championships and to top it off we have Sempai Sam’s black belt grading at the end of the month.
Good luck Sempai not that you will need it. Just remember all your training and keep getting up. Fighting spirt all the way and you will be fine.
Next month is going to be very busy for the adults with the Borehamwood family day and also the parade and on the 25th of June we have the adult national grading’s.
Please remember that if you are grading to get all your paperwork back to Sensei Tom or Sensei Del ASAP!! The cut-off date for the grading paperwork to be handed in is the Thursday 9th June 2016.
Please visit our website www.ishinryu.com as much as possible as I submit reports every month about the students training during the previous month. This is a great opportunity to see if you have been mentioned or appear in a photo.
We also have the new calendar page where you can have a look at upcoming events so you can plan ahead. You can also leave feedback on each of the reports or comment on your son/daughters club and share them to your Facebook pages.
If you have any questions or you are unsure of anything, please catch me at the club where I will be happy to help!
If you are on Facebook, please can you send me and Kevin Pell a friend request so if we need to pass on information quickly I can contact you, and when the reports go up I can share it to your Facebook page so you get it straight away.
