What a brilliant month the Borehamwood and Aldenham adults have had. The month of August is white belt month – everyone in the class went back to basics from black belt down everyone was working on white belt, from the basic fitness test to the basic throws.

It was brilliant that so many people who thought they knew white belt had forgotten some of the basics or they missed little bits out and added some bits in.

This is why you should always go back to the beginning because you never know what you could forget, for Michael Yerrill-Asser this was the best training ever for being out for a little bit coming back to a whole month of white belt is a blessing with everyone helping each other and working together the moves and fitness are so good to watch and be a part of.

As the same as a Thursday with Soke down every week we worked on a different section of white belt from ground work, fighting stances, and even how to bow in and out of the Dojo and why we do it. White belt is the first step of the Ishin Ryu ladder – it’s not just about learning loads of moves. It’s also the history of the school getting to know everyone who everyone is and why we do what we do.

Soke doesn’t just wake up and make the rules up as he goes he has been there and done it. And this month has been a big wake up call to everyone and has given everyone that edge that some people lost.

With the second hour of the class been focused on white belt and keeping everyone up to speed with everything the first part of the class we moved on to some basic moves from yellow and orange belt showing some nice chocks and locks from standing and kneeling. Everyone was really enjoying all the nice chokes as you could see a big smile on everyone’s red faces.

At the start of the month Soke had one of his teachers come up to Honbu to teach, Professor Tom Starling and myself and Jake Rider attended what was a brilliant lesson. We had pictures taken in Soke’s Japanese garden and then had loads of fun in the dojo with wrist locks throws and submissions. To finish off the night we went to the local pub for a lovely stake dinner. I would like to thank Soke for letting me and Jake attend such a fantastic nights training, and also to Professor Tom Starling for teaching an amazing class.

With everyone learning so much over the last couple of weeks we also had everyone working on their own belts as well as it will be only 4 months till the December grading. I know that Sempai Jack and Sam have been working hard on brown black and brown belt working on a belt at a time as they have a very big grading coming up next year.
With the end of every lesson we mix it up a big going over basic white belt with round of throws and fitness but nothing to hard just let basic fitness test 10 of everything. And the only throw we are working on at the moment being a hip throw.

A big well done to everyone that has come to training as coming to training is the hardest part of training the rest is easy. But keep up the hard work and the Dojo is buzzing every night. I look forward to seeing everyone next week and can’t wait for September the month of Yellow belt.

A reminder to all adults that this year’s Shochu Geiko is on Saturday 3rd October and Sunday 4th October 2015. For more information go to the Ishin Ryu events calendar, if you don’t have anywhere to stay you can sleep on the Dojo floor at Honbu F.O.C (free of charge) or find yourself a nice hotel or BnB. I will go in to more details at the dojo so remember your note pad and pens.

I can’t wait to start yellow belt in September as I know a lot of the white belts are looking forward to this as well. Also moving on to the fitness test of 15 of everything instead of 10, bring it on.

Please remember guys and girls; if you can’t make training for any reason please make sure that you CALL SOKE ON THE OFFICE NUMBER 01953 483 795.

Soke will contact me or Sensei Del that you will not be at the club.
