I would like to start this month off by saying a big well done to everyone that is a part of Ishin Ryu Ju Jitsu. On Saturday 16th April 2016 Ishin Ryu Ju Jitsu were nominated for “Association of the Year” by the British Martial arts community. With two other big martial arts groups in the running it would be really close. All the senior grades and Yudansha turned up at the British Martial Arts Awards in federation dress looking ready to celebrate Ishin Ryu style.
With loads of amazing people getting some outstanding awards it comes down to our award. With everyone nervous and fingers crossed the Cobra Martial arts group who are amazing come in second and the first place went to ISHIN RYU JU JITSU! It was amazing Soke Kevin Pell thanked everyone for the past 26 years commitment and looks forward to the next 26 years and more.
With all the excitement of the martial arts awards the training in the dojo has been really good with each lesson being a mix of fitness grappling and weapon work. With everyone training in gun disarm and pistol drills, we started from the basic of how to hold the gun and what to do and what not to do. Everyone has been working hard on this and with most people this is so much fun to do. With myself and Sempai Sam showing the guys and girls some of the drills we learned on our fire arms training course in Croatia.
Also this month we have been getting more ground work in mixing it up with basic fitness and different exercise to keep the body guessing. With the senior grades helping the lower belts out showing them some good moves to escape and also to get some good chocks and locks on. With the teenager class running alongside the adults they have been mixing in with the adults and learning a lot they have come a long way with their grappling and fitness as well and I find the teenagers have grown up more working with the adults.
Also this month I would like to welcome Daniel Morris to our adult class. Daniel’s son Nathan Morris has been training with Ishin Ryu since he was 6 years old and Daniel has always wanted to come on the mat. With years gone past and hurting himself a lot he has finally taken the jump and come on the mat and is working really hard. Well done Daniel and I look forward to seeing you in your Gi soon.
Finally this month has seen Sempai Sam Gladdy getting pushed to the extreme with only one month till he takes his Shodan (Black belt) exam. He has been training hard, with runs before lessons with Sempai Jack and also training before his lesson with weapons work and demonstration work he is starting to peak in his training and is looking sharp.
Within the adult lesson Sempai Sam is completing two or three basic fitness test, that is 50 of everything and going throw all the basic throws and that’s just the start. By the end of the lesson he is still looking fresh even if inside his mind is saying stop he keeps going. Well done Sempai I know it’s hard but it will be worth it in the end.
Always remember “WHAT THE MIND BELIEVES THE BODY ACHIEVES.” With training that is 90% of it if you can put your mind in to training mode then you are almost there. Training starts once you get in the car driving to training it is hard but once you are in the dojo you have family to get you to the end.
For the senior grades next month please remember that ATW is now on a Saturday and not on a Sunday so the date for the next ATW is on the calendrer on the website but if you want to check as well it is Saturday 14th May 2016.
Also next month we have the children’s championships if you can help out for this event with anything from helping kids with belts, time keeping, tea and coffee testing. Please let Sensei Del, Soke and myself now ASAP.
Also this month we have the Martial arts show on Saturday 7th and 8th May 2016 Ishin Ryu will be doing demonstrations on the Saturday and would love for you to come and support the club and take part if you can.
Finally it will be Sempai Sam’s grading at the end of May please wish him good luck and keep a look out on the website and Facebook for updates on how he gets on.
GOOD LUCK SEMPAI NOT THAT YOU NEED IT!!!!
Please visit our website www.ishinryu.com as much as possible as I submit reports every month about the students training during the previous month. This is a great opportunity to see if you have been mentioned or appear in a photo.
We also have the new calendar page where you can have a look at upcoming events so you can plan ahead. You can also leave feedback on each of the reports or comment on your son/daughters club and share them to your Facebook pages.
If you have any questions or you are unsure of anything, please catch me at the club where I will be happy to help!
If you are on Facebook, please can you send me and Kevin Pell a friend request so if we need to pass on information quickly I can contact you, and when the reports go up I can share it to your Facebook page so you get it straight away.
