This month the Borehamwood adult and teenager class have been working really hard on their syllabus, mixing it up with random fitness test along the way to keep the students on their toes. By the end of each lesson the students should have done at least two or three fitness tests within the 2 hour lesson.

The teenagers have been working alongside the adults now for almost a year and I have to say that the spirt in the dojo has grown so much. The teenagers training has changed so much and they are looking like little mini adults and with most of them being taller than me I’m getting a little scared.

Also this month we have had some new starts to the class. I would like to welcome Alex Fry–Dontas to the teenager class from the juniors. Alex has been a brilliant student and has been training with Ishin Ryu for 6 years. He started in the infant class and has grown up through the ranks, and now has begun his journey in the teenager class. I would also like to welcome to the adult class Nick Gonzalez, he has always wanted to join our class and with his son training on a Saturday he found it time to train with the big boys and girls.

In the middle of this month the senior grades and sensei’s went up to the Honbu dojo in Norfolk for the second senior grade training day of the year. We had some fun with the logs and loads grappling and stand up knock down training. Everyone had trained really hard and we all took something back to the dojo to pass down to the other students.

With the end of the month coming up we have been working on some ground work and grappling with loads of different exercises to keep the heart pumping. The improvement from week to week has been amazing everyone has really loved the training, and I must say everyone has been getting on so well.

The last lesson of the month saw all the adult students from the Borehamwood and Aldenham dojo go for the last lesson of the month social were all the students train for an hour then we all go out to catch up and talk about training. This brings the club more together as a family unit and not your normal pay as you go kind of club.

All the students have been working on their next belt’s getting ready for the summer grading. Make sure that you all have the right syllabus for your grade, and also any weapons or admin you might need for your next belt make sure you sort it out before the grading.

Next month we will be doing a lot of pad work with the senior grades and the beginners will be going over all the basic does and don’ts in the dojo.  Also next month we have the Martial arts awards on Saturday 16th April 2016. If you haven’t already got a ticket and would like to go then please let Soke or sensei Tom know ASAP!

With the Easter holidays on their way the club will still be on as normal so I look forward to seeing everyone at the dojo for loads of fun training.

Please visit our website as much as possible as I submit reports every month about the students training during the previous month. This is a great opportunity to see if you have been mentioned or appear in a photo.

We also have the new calendar page where you can have a look at upcoming events so you can plan ahead. You can also leave feedback on each of the reports or comment on your son/daughters club and share them to your Facebook pages.

If you have any questions or you are unsure of anything, please catch me at the club where I will be happy to help!

If you are on Facebook, please can you send me and Kevin Pell a friend request so if we need to pass on information quickly I can contact you, and when the reports go up I can share it to your Facebook page so you get it straight away…

Many thanks,
Tom Garvin Sensei

Sensei, I am really enjoying my training. 5 weeks have already gone by and I feel a difference in my fitness levels although I still have a long way to go. Definitely beats going to the gym.
