The Bishops Ju Jitsu Club
Monthly Report, March 2014

For the month of March, I would like to congratulate Archie Moore from the Infant Class, and Shaydon Winters from the Junior Class for receiving the Student of the Month Awards for March based on their hard work and dedication so far this year.

Balancing Drills

The beginning of March was dedicated to revision for the gradings, which were scheduled for the second week in March. A separate report will follow shortly…

Following the gradings, the remaining lessons in March were devoted to a mixture of various techniques. At the beginning of each lesson, we practiced standard Front Rolling Breakfalls, but then mixed it up with attempting Handstand Breakfalls.

This was brilliant fun and it was great to see who could perform these – with the little added safety lesson letting them know to be careful!

We also practiced Front Rolling Breakfalls over a kick shield, with the finale being over me!!! We had fun trying to do some cartwheels finishing off with a back breakfall; everyone showed great courage and determination with these drills.

All grades practiced balancing drills that saw them crouched down but jumping on two feet whilst trying to push each other away. Everyone had great fun with this as they were trying to maintain their balance, which proved harder than first thought! The infant and junior classes also practiced balancing drills on one foot leaning over whilst hopping and pushing each other away, their legs soon became very achy! Great conditioning though!!

The children also practiced Randori (free practice) – with the National Championships not far away, the more practice we get the better!
It has been a crammed month but an exciting one! Well done everyone – keep up your hard work!
