At the beginning of June, adult students were making those last minute tweaks to get everything ready for adult gradings, which were taking part on Saturday the 20th June. On the 11th June, Soke came along to make sure that everything was in place. We started off the lesson with normal drills before breaking off to syllabus. Just after nine pm Soke calls “Yamei!” Gets everyone down one end of the dojo for the unexpected (With the exception of a few who know what Soke’s got in store for us) we were quickly paired up and got ready for casualty drags… firing on all cylinders we immediately dragged our partners to what seems like a never ending matted area before burning our legs out for the reverse casualty drag back.
As soon as we finished that it was straight into one line with partners to perform those fantastic new burpees that everyone loves – or not, as the case may be. With a few more exercises it was swiftly back into learning our syllabus (that got the blood pumping) We carried on practicing those last minute drills before Soke sets off another fire cracker by getting us all gloved up and ready for milling with bags. We had one strike shield down which left Sempai Sam Gladdy and Nick Rowan with a 6ft bag to contend with! Multiple changes before moving on to more fitness… I bet Sempai Sam and Nick wish they didn’t have that bag
Just before the gradings on Saturday Matthew Buckner was making any last few adjustments and going through some throws with partner James Hawkey (Bushey Adult getting some extra training at Aldenham) and decides to hurt his little toe – not what was planned especially being so close to gradings;
After the close inspection of Matthews toe we realised it was facing in a different direction “I think that’s broken” Matthew took him self off to A&E supported by Sempai Mike Tuohy to find it was not just broken, but he had split the bone in two!
Unfortunately Matthew did not attempt his grading due to not wanting to damage it further and still want to perform work duties… Hopefully you can catch up in December where you left off.
Also this very same evening Martin Adil-Smith joined us at the dojo after a very long journey from Scotland. Martin worked alongside Sempai Sam Gladdy and then Sensei Tom Garvin; Martin would then travel to Honbu that evening and further his training with Sensei Tom the following day.
Nick Rowan who wanted to triple grade which as we all know is something not everyone would attempt due to the arduous work needed to get there, was SUCCESSFUL! Nick worked his butt off and showed everyone that with grit and determination you can achieve. Well-done Nick, really good effort!
A fantastic month by you all, hope to see you all regularly training next month…OSU!
