A very nice packed class!

A very nice packed class!

At the beginning of August it was great to see so many students turn up for training after Soke Kevin Pell made a few alterations to the class, with 19 students in attendance we were set for a great start to the month. Soke has decided to take the Borehamwood Ju Jitsu class right back to basics – each month we will work on one particular belt, starting with white and moving steadily through the belts. For some of the belts I imagine it would take a little longer but Soke is determined to get everyone firing on all cylinders. Soke will improve everyone’s fitness so when it comes to grade at the end of the year, you will all be ready.

At the beginning of the month we also had the pleasure of Simon Fletcher turn up to training at the Aldenham Ju Jitsu club, Simon is a very charismatic and likeable person within the club and makes everyone laugh wherever he goes.

We started classes off in regular fashion, working on forward rolls, breakfalls and weapon drills, breaking it all down into stages to ensure that everyone is singing from the same hymn sheet. Then after a little gentle exercise we moved on to a block known as a (Kempo block) with the view to adding it to the syllabus in the future.

After working with this block we found many advantages to where we can use this. We furthered this technique by Soke taking a technique from the syllabus but this time using the Kempo block. We found this block very easy to use as we were very close to our partner, giving us better control. From here we tried protecting our heads using the block whilst our partner tries punching us – what great fun…

Great conditioning work!

The next few weeks we repeatedly went over techniques within the white belt syllabus, Soke carefully kept his watchful eye over us making sure that we were all doing the same thing, correct footwork, correct arm work and any other small details which needed tidying up. To keep us on our toes Soke rocketed in basic fitness getting us more adaptable to working under pressure. For some of the belts this was a struggle but for those that regularly keep themselves in shape where a little more adaptable to it.

Soke wanted to work on a little conditioning work, each person would find a partner, find themselves a little space around the mat, don their gloves and start throwing blows to the abdomen area. As each week progresses we will turn up intensity thus getting everyone more acceptable to receiving blows to the body! It has been a fantastic month with everyone regularly turning up to training both Tuesday and Thursday evenings getting the max out is their training.

I trust that everyone has had a lovely summer break and if you were able to go away to enjoy the sun, you had a lovely time.

Next month we will be moving on to the next belt which is yellow and repeating with this belt what we done for the previous, Soke will not forget your white belt as each week and each belt we work through we will always go over what we practiced before. (Remember never to forget your previous belts and always practice them)

The atmosphere has been electric these last months, there is a great buzz to the club which comes from the enthusiasm of the instructors and flows down to us students! Always a pleasure to participate in!

  2. A great report and photos and i have to say I am loving teaching the Borehamwood and Aldenham jujitsu club again…
Now in to its 26th year and still the strongest adult Dojo within Ishin Ryu Ju Jitsu

  3. Osu Sensei, excellent report as always! I’m really happy that more people are attending the classes at Aldenham/Borehamwood, it gives us that extra group energy to keep going and push ourselves past our limits.

  4. Osu,
Well said Sensei Del and I’m glad to be a part of IshinRyuJuJitsu…
Looking forward to the gradings in December 🙂
