A great class!

A great class!

Welcome back everyone! I hope that you have all had a wonderful Christmas break and a fantastic New Year! I’m sure many of you have made some new year’s resolutions and wish the very best of luck trying to accomplish them…

Sempai Mike Tuohy is back training full time as he had a little time out of his busy schedule for crisis over the festive period. Mike has been caring for the homeless over Christmas for now 35 years and each year chooses to spend his Christmas day caring for them. Mike is an inspiration and it’s a pleasure to call him my friend. There are a lot of people who wouldn’t even batter an eyelid when it comes to homeless but not Mike, fantastic effort – very proud!

I would also like to say congratulations to Sempai Mike Tuohy and Harvey Cousins for completing 10 years of training with Ishin Ryu Ju Jitsu. Sempai Mike and Harvey Cousins shared their celebration with the rest of the class by bringing some sparkling champagne for us to enjoy at the end of the class…

Welcome back Sempai Mike Tuohy!

Welcome back Sempai Mike Tuohy!

January has gone so quick but we have all had a great month. We started off getting back into training by learning some “Shrimping” (No, we didn’t go fishing for them) but more an exercise to get the hips moving when someone has got you pinned down. Its not as easy as just sticking your hips out and hey presto you’re done! The whole body is needed for the technique to work effectively; with a partner, one laying on their back and the other standing (Straddling) they would try get themselves out of the small gap that they have, thus simulating a confined space, once confident it could be practiced solo up and down the mat.

Throughout the month we started back on syllabus training as 6 months just doesn’t seem to last as long as it used to (Or maybe I’m just getting old) either way we got straight back on to it mixing it up with a little bit of fitness and grappling to keep the class awake.

Senior grades have been going through all their belts, as Sempai Sam Gladdy will be attempting his Shodan grading in May. Sempai Sam has been working hard in and outside the dojo in preparation for this long and arduous weekend; it definitely will be a day to remember…

On Saturday 9th January 2016, Kevin Pell Sensei (Founder & Chief instructor, Ishin Ryu Ju Jitsu) staged the 26th Anniversary dinner in Borehamwood, Herts. It was a fantastic evening where all the Ishin Ryu families and friends celebrated another year of success! I would like to say a massive thank you to Kevin Pell Sensei for making the evening so pleasant and enjoyable.

I would also like to say a MASSIVE thank you to Kevin Pell Sensei for awarding me with my Sandan (3rd Dan) totally out of the blue but I am deeply honored to receive it.

I would also like to say massive congratulations to Andy Herbert Sensei receiving his Yondan (4th Dan) and Trevor Steward Sensei receiving his Godan (5th Dan) and to all the other instructors receiving their awards. I’m looking forward to a fantastic year and can’t wait to we all meet again…!

Next month I look forward to polishing the techniques that you have learnt in January but never forgetting your previous belts, as it’s all too easy to forget them and not be able to recall them when needed…

Please visit our website www.ishinryu.com as much as possible as I submit reports every month about the students training during the previous month. This is a great opportunity to see if you have been mentioned or appear in a photo.

We also have the new calendar page where you can have a look at upcoming events so you can plan ahead. You can also leave feedback on each of the reports or comment on your son/daughters club and share them to your Facebook pages.

If you have any questions or you are unsure of anything, please catch me at the club where I will be happy to help!

If you are on Facebook, please can you send me and Kevin Pell a friend request so if we need to pass on information quickly I can contact you, and when the reports go up I can share it to your Facebook page so you get it straight away…

Look forward to seeing you all in February…
